Another non-exhaustive list of writing (and art) residencies in the so-called US
Apparently y'all love lists as much as I do, so here's another one to bookmark
Residencies are such a privilege and a luxury
that can feel so precious—and difficult (sometimes impossible) to obtain.
I honestly feel like some of what feels so hard or inaccessible about residencies is just not knowing how to find them, how they work, and how to get organized enough to apply for them. So, I did some of the work for you. I’m not going so far as to make you a spreadsheet, but I’ve pulled some residencies from around the country and compiled them all into one place for you—well, two places now, technically (peep the first one). These residencies are geared primarily toward writing, though many of them have visual and multi-media opportunities. Quite a few accept group/paired/collaborative projects, so look out for that.
Some residencies are extremely competitive and a little (or a lot) cut-throat, and if it’s a goal for you to get into one of those, then good on ya, babe. I get it, I want that, too. But! If you just need some support, or a getaway, or a space to work on a collaboration with somebody, there are places for that! If you’re retired and you want to go hang out somewhere and write and frolic, there are places for that! If you need financial aid, sliding scale support, awards, scholarships, and fellowships in order to be able to access this kind of space, that exists! You just have to apply to the right places.
Again, this list is non-exhaustive. It’s just a jumping off point. A loving little nudge in a direction that I hope feels exciting and supportive to your sweet artist heart. We can’t apply for opportunities we don’t know about.

A low stakes way to support my time
I don’t ever want to gatekeep what I share in my Substack, but these postings do take time to compile—sometimes quite a bit of time—so I decided that this may be a good alternative. If you would like to “tip” me for any of the time it took to write this, if you felt moved or supported by it, you can buy me a coffee <3
A great list. Thanks. And in my latest newsletter, I have a list of what to bring in your suitcase!😉
Thank you for this.
